Pekka Jylhä is a sculptor who was born in Toholampi Finland. He was educated at The University of Art and Design, Helsinki from 1980-85, The Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki from 1984-87, and the Royal Arts Academy, Stockholm from 1987-88. He is one of Finlands most significant sculptors known for his experimental use of materials. “...Jylhä’s art finally adopted a stance in which sculptural art was primarily the contemplation and condensation of a theme, idea, symbol or metaphor, followed by the visual expression of that condensation using most appropriate materials and visual motifs”- Pessi Rautio. His imagination leads him to a mix of media and ideas which creates true, remarkable works of art.

The Garbage Man has a rather long history of being “tossed around the world” before finally it came to rest in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Oslo 1995. The original idea for it emerged in Moscow in 1986, and since then, it has been rebuilt and repeated many times. Life in the Soviet Union and autobiographical material serves as the basis for the installation, and the problems of the average person are those treated by Kabakov in his famous work.

One of the most original and influential artists of the early twentieth century, Vasily Kandinsky has exhibited his works in Stockholm, intertwining his life with Sweden through personal letters and experiences in World War I, when he was periodically isolated from his friends and family in Germany. If WWI had never occurred, Sweden would have never had the oppportunity to experience perhaps the least well-known time in the life and art of this international figure.
