LENA TORSLOW HANSEN is a renowned authority on Scandinavian art, architecture and culture.




lena torslow hansenAs Chairperson of Visual Art for Scandinavia Today (1982-83), she initiated and placed 29 exhibitions in both museum and university galleries throughout Southern California over a 16 month period. Lena organized and curated "Broad Spectrum: Contemporary Los Angeles Painters and Sculptors" for the Los Angeles Olympic Cultural Festival. She received a Fellowship for Arts Managers from the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington D.C. in the fall of 1985. In 1990, she founded the Scandinavian American Arts Foundation (SAAF), a non-profit institution that promoted and supported Scandinavian contemporary visual and performing arts in the United States.

Lena was also instrumental in bringing the exhibition "Golden Age of Danish Painting" to the United States, which appeared to great acclaim at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (fall 1993) and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (spring 1994). A ceramic artist with museum and gallery exhibitions to her credit, Lena has taught and lectured extensively on the same subject.
