The Garbage Man has a rather long history of being “tossed around the world” before finally it came to rest in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Oslo 1995. The original idea for it emerged in Moscow in 1986, and since then, it has been rebuilt and repeated many times. Life in the Soviet Union and autobiographical material serves as the basis for the installation, and the problems of the average person are those treated by Kabakov in his famous work.
