Strömholm’s repertoire of work defies singular explanation. His figurative images are dark, yet not despaired. They are unique in their refusal to provide the public with shock value. Instead, Strömholm communicates and complies with the subjects photographs, whether they be transvestites or abandoned children. Both the subject matter and the contexts of his pictures remain inconsistent, but his unique eye becomes the unifying force behind all of his work. This stunning collection is a must for any lover of photography because these images consistently challenge and question the purpose of photography itself.

The Czech photographer is considered to be one of the big names in modern experimental photography. His work focuses on objects that are tightly controlled in terms of light and shade. They overstep the boundaries of naturalism, and the angles 0of the shots and the method of composition link Sudek closely with the internationl traditions of Surrealism. His photographs were taken for advertising purposes and the functional everyday objects - such as dishes, utensils, books and pillows - that appear connected with each other as if in some mystery play. Little things arouse overwhelming feelings.
