As part of the Nationalmuseum series documenting their collections, this catalogue of the European painting collections supersedes that published in 1958. Therefore, it includes the many acquisitions made during the 30 years since the last issue and it reflects the most recent research on the older holdings. The painting collections, from the 15th century to the 20th, are of the highest international class. The 18th century French collection is among the finest in the world, with artists like Watteau, Boucher and Chardin represented. The impressionist collection, containing works by Manet, Renoir, and Gauguin is highly esteemed internationally, as is an important collection of Dutch and Flemish art of the 17th century, including masterpieces by Rubens and nine Rembrandts. This new completely illustrated catalogue makes this superb collection more accessible to both the larger public and specialized art historians as well.
