The Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden was founded in the 1820s with the motto “Science and Art” which, at the time, were considered the foundation for the progress of mankind. The motto’s message still survives strongly today, as the building of the Institute itself was completed with this message in mind. The buildings contain close to 150 works of art by some of the leading Swedish artists at the time, such as Carl Milles and Georg Pauli, for example. This book offers a presentation of these works, descriptions of the ideas and influences underlying them, as well as a brief account of the Institute’s history.
