Tempelman was one of the most important Nordic architects in the era of Gustav III, the late 17th and early 18th centuries. He built numerous pavilions at the Drottningholm palace as well as still extant town houses, and this survey builds on previously unpublished Tempelman drawings from the Hermitage in St Petersburg. His work is set against a background of 18th century cultural politics and royal commissions; Tempelman was the first Professor of Architecture in Sweden and as such a key figure in the development of the neoclassical aesthetic in Europe.
