This book is about Hilding Ekelund who was a central figure in Finnish architecture for about six decades, from the classicism of the 1920’s to the late interpretations of modernism of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Ekelund’s work covered housing design, public building and urban planning. In his contribution to this book, Professor Vilhelm Helander has described Ekelund’s extensive sphere of influence. The other writers have concentrated on individual themes like Ekelund’s links to Nordic Classicism. His buildings among many include Helsinki Art Hall and Töölö Church. Additional essays describe Ekelund as an urban planner designing very livable architecture and much more.
