This exhibition concentrates on a single building, the House of Culture/ Kulttuuritalo in Helsinki (1952-58); and examines the design and construction process from the first sketches through to completion with complete to scale architectural drawings, photographs and models. It also brings the story of the building up-to-date, with an account of its vicissitudes and its recent restoration. The genius of Alvar Aalto shows in different materials used on the building from copper to wood and glass to details like a door handle, the rain gutters, the light fixtures, the beautiful railing for the stairway - all on 9” square cards ready to be framed and accompanied by a booklet with text.
