Andreassen was himself an Inuit from Greenland, who lived at the turn of the century. Although he produced some marvelous paintings in the naive style, he produced more black and white drawings, which are at once sinister and exciting for their portrayal of the mythology of the Inuit peoples and the extreme hardships of their daily lives.
