Ed Wiener began making jewelry after World War II and, working from studios/shops in Provincetown and New York, established a reputation for creating inventive pieces which reflected trends in modern art. This catalogue was published to accompany a retrospective exhibiton at Fifty/50 Gallery in 1989, and is divided into eleven sections documenting the course of Wiener’s career, from his early silver pieces to his later work with gold and gemstones. Each section begins with commentary by Ed Wiener, and introductory essays by art historians Dr. Milton W. Brown and Dr. Blanche R. Brown shed further light on Wiener’s contribution to twentieth-century studio jewelry design. The catalogue is profusely illustrated with photographs of 117 pieces, spanning the period from 1946 to the year of the exhibition, each accompanied by information on materials, the date of design and dimensions.
