Through the text and unique photos found in this book one gets a vivid impression of Bedouin life in Qatar fifty years ago, from a time where the oil economy had not yet changed the country and caused the Bedouins to take up settled life in the cities. The photographs depict the pure but simple life amohg the citizens two generations ago, a life that seems light years away from today’s affluent consumer society. The pictures therefore also tell the story of life of the previous generations and their ability to endure the harshness of life in the desert, while at the same time having developed a rich and refined material culture and an ethos of trustworthiness and generous hopsitality- a valuable foundation for the life of coming generations. The Danish archaeological excavations and the ethnographic research were the first carried out in Qatar and thereby laid the foundation for future research in these fields. With descriptive text in Englsh and Arabic and astoundingly beautiful, moving photographs of the desert people and their way of life.
