It is the American art historian Courtney J. Martin, who in the monograph “THE TANGIBLE SPACE”, tells of Morten Straede as one of he most recognized and productive artists of the Danish art scene. Martin wrote the catalog text for Morten Strede’s solo exhibition “Seven Sorrowful Songs” at Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, and puts Morten Straede into an international context and tradition in relation to visual artists such as Bruce Nauman and Richard Sera. Morten Straede made his breakthrough in the 1980’s, where the abstract design language was characteristic of the sculptors of the time, who, like their contemporary wild painters, included elements of literature, semiotics and philosophy in their art. Strait’s sculptures- which have found a prominent place in the public space over the past 10-15 years offer many oppotunities for understanding and interpretating and at the same time have the weight that is needed when a work is public art.
