In 2012, Jesper Just was selected by the Danish Arts Council and given the prestigious task of representing Denmark at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013. His appointment seemed self-evident. Nationally and especially internationally- Just spellbinds his surroundings with enigmatic, ambiguous narratives in the form of moving pictures of an uncompromisingly high quality. He is captivated by themes such as human relations, desire, and places-exploring them without words, through music, song, and poetic filmic narratives. Just makes use of the readily identifiable codes and idioms of Hollywood movies while also challenging us by twisting the familiar movie cliches, leaving us with questions rather than providing answers. This book presents the exhibition inspired by and following his work for the Biennale. It shows his major work interacting with films dating from 2002 to the present.
