Marjatta Tapiola was born in 1951 in Sysmä, Finland. Her paintings are expressionistic in the figurative manner, painting mainly in animal and human forms and abstract forms stemming from human qualities. Tapiola is included in many museum collections around Europe and has received a number of awards in addition to being a professor of painting at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts.
