Taking as its basis the works of 26 international contemporary artists, the exhibition examines the viewer’s role in relatively recent art. Frequently the individual is invited to touch the artwork, to move around in it, to help themselves from it or in other ways play a part in relation to it. Placed in the role of active participant in various ways, our traditional situation as a detached spectator is challenged. The exhibition seeks to clarify this aesthetic shift such as it finds expression in art from the 1960s until today. Includes among many artists Vito Acconci, Carl Andre, George Brecht, Michael Craig-Martin, Liam Gillick, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Douglas Gordon, Dan Graham, Mona Hatoum, Donald Judd, Allan Kaprow, Paul McCarthy, Bruce Nauman, Yoko Ono, Jorge Pardo, Jason Rhoades, Thomas Struth et al
