The exhibition presents a selection of the best handcrafted furniture from the post-war period chosen because of the exquisite workmanship that they display. The creative talents behind these pieces include renowned architects like Finn Juhl and Hans Wegner, but the focus is primarily on pieces by designers who are less known, often due to their limited output.Among them are Ejner Larsen & Axel Bender Madsen whose Game table in rosewood and ebony from 1966 is one of the exhibition highlights. Made in close collaboration with the highly skilled Cabinetmaker Willy Beck, it is an ideal example of design, cabinetmaking and leatherwork in a refined synthesis.

Japanese artists possess the uncanny ability of incorporating their traditions into their drive for technological progress. They are constantly transgressing the divide between history and future, art and craft, inspiration and dissociation, reality and fantasy, body and spirit. Also, the works of these artists exhibited exceptional atmosphere, material sensitivity, loyalty towards shape and form, and compelling subtlety. These various factors prompted the Glasmuseum to enter into constant dialogue with Japanese glass artists and museum colleagues, a dialogue which ultimately resulted in this fascinating exhibition.

Lone Skov Madsen was trained as a ceramist at Danmarks Designskole in Copenhagen. Her works are represented in the main ceramic museums of Denmark. She is best known for her platters, circular shapes about half a meter in diameter, and the organic shapes of her jars. With the simple, neutral forms, the platters presents themselves as a canvas on which she models her volcanic structures with running, drifting glazes. This small catalogue gives a beautiful presentation of her ceramic pieces complete with detailed full page colorphotographs and accompanying text.

Published on the occasion of The Drawing Center's exhibition, Greta Magnusson Grossman: Furniture and Lighting presents full-color plates and details of the never-before-seen drawings of the Swedish-born, Los Angeles-based architect and industrial designer. A two-time recipient of the Museum of Modern Art's Good Design award, Grossman remains an under-recognized, yet highly influential figure in the Southern California design movement of the 1950s and 60s. The book, number 81 in the Drawing Papers series, features an essay by exhibition curator Brett Littman and an introduction by Evan Snyderman, principal of R 20th Century in New York City, as well as several archival photographs of Grossman's residential buildings, interiors, and furnishings.
