This is the first monograph on the Stone House, conceptualised by Per Kirkeby and erected in 1996 in Jutland, Denmark; a fascinating brick building of sparse elegance, accommodating the geological collection of the university Skærum Mølle. Presented is the genesis of the exhibition hall from the first sketches to the erection complemented by the auditorium, the observatory and the study hall. The author gives many references to sacral architecture and modern classics, such as Peter Behrens. Furthermore he reveals Kirkeby’s surprising sources of inspiration: for example the staircase in Rembrandt’s painting The Meditating Philosopher.
