Though he was born in Uruguay, Capelán developed his artistic career in Sweden. His work is therefore imbued with a sense of being out of place, or in another place, where difference and identity matter. Through his installations, drawings and paintings, he illuminates the complexity of the culture in which we live and to view society from close up. In this regard, Capelán remains true to his Latin American roots, as his art brings social and political issues to the fore.
