Out of the merging of photography with the graphic arts in “photogravure,” a new pictorialism develops which, undaunted, accommodates the copper engraver, the computer nerd, and the snapshot photographer. This book depicts fascinating work by 37 Nordic artists, selected by a committee organized by the Museum of Photographic Art in Denmark. As a testament to the resilience of this art form, this exhibition appraises the resurgence of photogravure in terms of its ability to express the relentlessly contemporary.
