The book focuses on the overlooked Golden Age painter Thorald Brendstrup whose work paints a unique picture of the Danish landscape in the years between 1835 and 1883. As one of the first mix golden age artists who depicted Brendstrup the landscape that lay outside Copenhagen and North Zealand, quite parrallel with the Danish geography mapped by future topographers. Brendstrup visited a number of years the area around Maribo Lake, from which comes a number of excellent works that show the scope of the artist's talent. Brendstrup traveled not only the Danish kingdom, he also made a number of lengthy trips to Germany, Italy and Portugal. The book is an important and unique Danish artist rediscovered and restored in the Danish art history.
