Throughout his entire career as a floral artist, Tage Andersen has demonstrated a unique twist to his talent: the ability to occupy an open space. He has done so over a series of spectacular exhibitions, at castles and manor houses, in churches and at museums, at international garden fairs and world-renowned botanical gardens. It is a selection of these exhibitions, all endowed with the same magic and enchantment that have been brought together in this book. Full page color photographs on all but a few pages, along with the artist’s words, bring this magic directly to the reader in an incredibly sumptuous and generous offering of beauty and insight.

When the artist Tage Andersen acquired the manor and lands built by Jonathan Printz, the former governor of new Sweden (who was given the land by Queen Kristina), he utterly transformed it. He designed magnificently defined garden rooms, a reflection pool with topiary trees, a meadow of tall grass interspersed with thousands of lilies and peonies of all colors, an immense glass house built for musical soirees, camellias and pomegranate trees, and richly built enclosures that frame the surrounding grounds. The landscape is dramatic, with a ravine, a brook, a looming spruce forest and verdant pastures where Tage’s heirloom breeds of livestock graze: sheep, goats, pigs and cows, and his special breeds of hens. Inside the manor, the interior is partly new but the wall colorings are of the Baroque, and furniture designed by Tage himself is shown together with art made by his friends, often inspired by the 16th and 17th centuries. This gorgeous book thoroughly conveys the experience of the place- where art, interior design, flowers and nature come together as one to inspire and give fuel to the operatic, musical and ballet performances given there; a place that gives nourishment to all the senses and leaves a lasting impression that stays with the visitor forever.

A pictorial feast, as floral artist Tage Andersen creates fanciful decorations to liven up the season. Though he employs traditional themes, objects, and scenes, his creations are so innovative that they redefine the concept of decorating for the holidays. He consciously blends the sense of familiarity behind the scenes that reappear each year at Christmas, while reinventing them to recreate feelings of expectation and longing for the next holiday season to come. Also, in his narration, he beautifully describes the transition from the spartan atmosphere of Advent to the culmination around Christmas itself, and to the denouement through the New Year. In pictures and in prose, this book is an inspiration to anyone desiring a fresh floral aspect to their holiday season.

This book is to inspire others to create their own textile pictures. Wiklund documents her time spent in Lappland, Sweden. She often went out into nature and painted with watercolors the nature surrounding her. From there she wove these pictures using different traditional techniques but also strayed from certain rules, using her imagination and creating new ideas. She gives advice on different weaving techniques and hopes the book will give inspiration for others to create their own unique patterns. Full color pictures included.
