The idea of the book has a symbolic and cultural significance all over the world. The artists’ book is a relatively new artist medium that addresses so many concerns and issues in artistic production, many of which are particularly important in today’s discourse. This ‘new’ medium has its own complex history, which is older than the history of printing itself; it is about communication technology. The increasing activiy of book artists and the diversity of approaches are offering new views and changing old ways of seeing books. What this exhibit tried to do was display a number of American artists’ books that should begin to provide some insight into how different these books can be. Nearly every page consists of close to a full page rich color photo of a work.
