When Norwegian composer Frederick Delius (1862-1934) met Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) for the first time, it was the beginning of a long and deep personal friendship that survived until their deaths. Now, for the first time, the entire correspondence of their letters, with the fascinating insights which they offer into some extraordinary lives, has been brought together and arranged here in chronological order, and widely commented upon. A glimpse into their deep occasionally troubled lives of emotion.

Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) brilliantly utilized Norwegian folk music to create compositions remarkable for their originality, impressionistic harmonies, and melodic richness. Included here are Grieg's own arrangements of his enormously popular Peter Gynt Suites 1 & 2 (with such favorites as 'Morning Mood' and 'In the Hall of the Mountain King'); the four Norwegian Dances. Op.35, displaying strong folk-music influence; the elegant and urbane Walt- Caprice, Op. 37; and the exuberant 'Wedding Day at Troldhaugen,' Op. 65, No.6, a four-hand arrangement of one of Grieg's best-loved Lryic Pieces.

Between 1989-2002, Grøndahl photographed sixteen Danish composers spanning four generations. The result is this beautiful, gigantic book, portraits of the individuals, their environment and their music. A stunning book. Composers included are Carl Nielsen, Herman D. Koppel, Vagn Holmboe, Ib Nørholm, Per Nørgård, Karl-Åge Rasmussen, Poul Ruders, Anders Nordentoft, Eva Noer Kondrup et al. In the case of Carl Nielsen, since he is no longer alive the choice was to photograph the landscape in which he grew up and lived, which was his main inspiration.

Violin Concertoin D minor, Op.471. I. Allegro moderato2. II. Adagio di molto 3. III Allegro, ma non tanto Symphony No.5 in E flat major, Op. 824. I. Tempo molto moderato. Allegro moderato (ma poco a poco stretto). Vivace molto. Presto5. II. Andante mosso, quasi allegretto6. III. Allegro moltoCurrently leader of the English Chamber Orchestra (and formerly of the prize-winning Vellinger Quartet), violinist Stephanie Gonley has appeared as a soloist with many of the leading orchestras in the UK. She gives an especially dreamy, sensual interpretation of the first movement of Sibelius's violin concerto, written in homage to the great Romantic tradition. Epic-heroic writing characteristic of the Romantics also imbues the outer movements of his Fifth Symphony, which is leavened with an Andante in variation form, pastoral and cheerful in mood.
