The private art collection of professor Fredrik Cygnaeus (1807 – 1881) opened to the public in 1882 and is the oldest art museum in Finland. Initially, the museum’s goal was to incorporate one work from every Finnish artist in the collection, however, with the inclusion of some international work, this goal became unmanageable. The first part of this catalog describes the life work of Fredrik Cygnaeus and the creation of this museum. The second part presents, in detail, all of the paintings, drawings, watercolors, and sculptures that comprise the collection in its current state.

The art of Norwegian born Johan Christian Dahl (1788-1857) bears witness to his standpoint on the cultural division of North and South. He became one of the great painters of Romantic Landscapes, and much of his background was established in Denmark. But, unlike many other Romantic landscape artists of his day, Dahl preferred to depict the natural world of the North rather than that of the South. A delightful guide to his work that especially highlights J.C. Dahl’s contributions to the Danish Golden Age.

Thorvaldsen Museum is a building that many would go to just to see it, if it was in Italy. But it is different since it is in Copenhagen , however with Bertel Thorvaldsen's sculptures this museum is a real adventure. Jørgen Aabenhus has written a story for the 13-16 year old youth who breathes life into all the myths and stories as the house and sculptures tell you. Jens Lindhe has photographed the museum, as it has not been seen before. Together the writer and photographer tell a story about an extraordinary house that will forever be changed for those who have read the book. List of illustrations.
