Interviews with Baselitz, Kirkeby, Baechler, Lena Cronqvist, Olav Christoffer Jenssen, Ola Billgren, Torsten Andersson about Carl Fredrik Hill and at the same time a very comprehensive book on the life and art of Carl Fredrik Hill (1849-1911). A Swedish artist who studied art in Stockholm and then travelled to Paris in the fall of 1873, where he was inspired by French art, while at the same time developed his own style of painting. In 1878 Hill was diagnosed with schizophrenia; however, he continued to work until his death in 1911. During this period he created a large body of works, which continues to inspire artists and writers today.

Commemorating the 100th anniversary of Hirschsprung’s deed of his gift to the Danish state. In 1902, the tobacco manufacturer Heinrich Hirschsprung (1836–1908) and his wife Pauline (1845–1912) bequeathed their art collection to the Danish state by a deed of gift. At the time, the gift comprised more than 600 paintings and sculptures as well as 1,200 drawings by Danish artists. The collection provided a representational picture of Danish 19th century art. At the time, it also constituted a sophisticated, cutting-edge collection of modern art. In the fall of 2002, the Hirschsprung Collection commemorated the 100th anniversary of this event by means of an exhibition, a film, and a book. The collection, Heinrich Hirschsprung’s life’s work, was his pride and joy, but he wanted no fuss about his own person. He preferred to play a more unobtrusive role.

This exhibition has been organised in connection with the completion of the scholarly appraisal of the Nationalmuseum’s collection of Dutch painting and the publication of a catalogue raisonné to be issued to coincide with its opening. This extensive collection of Dutch art represents most of the Dutch great masters, consisting of nearly 500 items. The exhibition deals with Dutch visual art during the period 1620-1680. The paintings and drawings on display tell us about the Dutch Republic and the people who lived and worked there. One common characteristic of this art is the realism of its visual depictions. But some of the works of art to be seen here have motifs that are not normally regarded as particularly Dutch, such as classical mythology and Italian landscapes. This exhibition has been arranged thematically rather than chronologically.
