Brandt raises a number of questions concerning masculinity and with both irony and care points to the expectations, external and internalised, facing the modern Western male. The title of the exhibition refers to one of the American artist Hannah Wilke’s most famous works Hannah Wilke Super T-Art from 1974, an investigation of female sexuality and the feminine role. Brandt selects certain pieces from her oevre, surveying her gestures, reinventing them and moulding them into new territory, his aim being to subvert the phallic law from a man’s point of view.

Bård Breivik has been a visible presence in Norwegian contemporary art since the mid-seventies. This beautiful catalogue is somewhat retrospective showing his smaller pieces made from wood, wire and mixed media; his major outdoor stone sculptures and large wire installations. The wire pieces are outstanding, they look light and elegant and they are constructed into impressive shapes.

Bettina Brendels images are comprised of her art installations and paintings. Brendel was educated in the arts in her native Germany and moved to the states in the early 1950s. Her art can be classicified as constructivism because it is both non-objective and geo. Her paintings “..evolve from an intense process of visualization of concepts, discoveries and assumptions in the field of quantum physics, particle physics and the study of light” (Bettina Brendel).

The work by Yngve Brotén consists of paintings and evocative drawings on glass panes using soft charcoal and soot. The topic is memories and feelings on the way to disappearing, and the work is intended to reinforce their stabilization while playing on the symbolic transparency of glass as a medium. Very soft, attractive work from this established Swedish artist.
