Here, in the creation of her “Leaf in the Air” series, Barbara Edelstein has combined the concept of lingering to contemplate nature in silence from the Eastern Tradition with the creation of an artistic, sculptural form not taken from nature, but one that is sculpted by the artist, as is more usual in Western artistic practice. This refers specifically to her extremely colorful sculptures of leaves made of silicone rubber with stainless steel stems, leaves of various and unique shapes and hues, placed in a chosen setting, but separated from each other by the space of their energy. The pairing of Edelstein’s drawings and photographs in the diptychs, triptychs and quadtychs explores the fine-tuning of our sensory abiities as we contemplate the forms and spaces. This catalog presents these elements of the show with foreword by Gloria F. Orenstein, Emerita, USC, Los Angeles, and an interview with the artist by MA Nan, also translated into Chinese.

This book deals with Eino’s sculptures; beautifully shaped marbles.
