Sinding (1856-1941) was born in Kongsberg, Norway. His special relationship with text as a means of artistic expression resulted in more than 250 songs, characterized by singable, folklike melodies and a harmonic style solidly rooted in German late-Romanticism. Sindig turned also to contemporary Norwegian and Danish poets, choosing verse inspired by nature, such as the songs from Op. 18 to texts by Vilhelm Krag, from Op. 19 to texts by Holger Drachmann and Svend Tr?st, and Op. 36 to poems by Nils Collett Vogt. Bodil Arnesen is among the most talented of Norway?s sopranos.
